path taken for voice

Hi,

Am i right to say that the path taken for voip is the same as data path? eg if i do a trace, that will be the path the voice will take...

Now, i have 2 links (for redundancy) between 2 location (A and B). A->B takes path X while B->A takes path Y... So what does it mean for the voice path?

Thanks,

Steven

Hi,

Yes, very much.

Since you are using VoIP in which case the signalling components may use TCP or UDP (depending on the VoIP protocol like H.323/SIP), however the Media is RTP which is UDP, You are essentially looking at the Packets reaching the destination based on routing. What may impact will be QoS, VoIP call statistics, Packet counters, Jitter, etc. depending on the link behaviour.

Thanks
