Software for connecting to our MCU 4501 or C20 VCUs

I hope I'm asking in the right place!

We have half a dozen Tandberg C20 VCUs and an MCU 4501 in operation. They are - in general - allworking fine.

Is there a recommended collection of software clients and mobile phone apps that people use to connect through the MCU (or indeed directly connect to a VCU)?

We are using ConferenceMe for Windows and XMeeting (via sourecforge) for Mac OSX. We're just trying out Spranto for iOS but need to find a suitable Android and Linux app too. Ideally we want as few apps as possible, so they would need to be cross-platform.

Any recent recommendations?

Hi,

If you are looking for a Cisco client for desktop, the software is Cisco Jabber for Telepresemce, which works with Windows, IPad and MAC. But in order to deploy Jabber for Telepresence, you need to have VCS+TMS or VCS Starter Pack.

If you are looking for generic and free clients, I would suggest you X-lite. This is a SIP client that works fine (at least running on Windows), and there is mobile version as well (not sure if it is free).

In my personal opinion, generic and free SIP clients may be a good option, but you will probably have problem to get support from the vendor, and you can have compatibility issues. Therefore, in some cases, the best option is go for a better solution, like Cisco Jabber, for example. I had many problems with generic video clients in the past, that's why I prefer to stay away from them. =)

Don't forget "free" JabberVideo which is hosted by Cisco, it's identical to the "enterprise" version, however, you won't get presence and corporate directories, and it is rate limited to 1.3Mbps - but it is free and works on Windows, Macs and iPad; https://www.ciscojabbervideo.com/home - and you do not need TMS, VCS etc.

Support is forum based only:

I must say that the codian style mcu which you use is quite robust regards 3rd party endpoints.

But sure there might always be some issues, so you should test and "certify" what should be used in your environment.

Most clients with proper sip (or h323) implementation and good h264/h263 support should work somehow.

But more or less most programs I tested did nor really match my quality or usability or had other flaws.

Jabber Video is simple but delivers a great quality, hosted by you, a thrid party or via https://www.ciscojabbervideo.com/

Regards mobile phone clients  yes, it might sound nice, but to be honest if I am sitting here and

somebody with a bad uplink speed is connected and holds his mobile phone in his hand,

that feels so shaky for me so I am close to get seasick :-) Also the remote site also has a quite

small display which is limited if presentations getting shared.

Tablets might be a better thing, especially if the user does not use it hand held.
