Tandberg Gatekeeper boot fail

Hello

I have a tandberg GateKeeper and the unit fails to boot.

When connected by RS232 all I get on my terminal window is:

àààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààààà

I checked my cable, and RS232 communications settings.

I use the unit for testing, tried to acces the unit to day but I got no luck. I place a new back-up cell but that didn't fix this issue.

There is no VGA connection on the unit so I can't see whats going on.

I hope that some one can help me out.

Or has an old unit laying around and not using it.

Of you have an other unit it might be easier for you to figure out if its
Your serial settings / cable / software / ... or the unit itself.

The default should be 115200.8,n,1 but it might be possible to reconfigure that, so trying different settings regards the speed might be worth as well.

Use the com port on the front, not sure if the rear one would also work.

Not sure what you want to do, but maybe getting yourself a virtualized vcs which
Runs in a demo mode might be the better idea.

do you have green led in front of gatekeeper or is it flashing or is it red?

Hello

The LED on front of the unit is the power Indicator it is a solit green light. Its not a muli color led.
No blinking.

it's worth swapping the cable and trying again. there is not much troubleshooting can be done if you don't have connection via web interface nor serial cable. sorry couldn't be much of help here.

The CMOS battery on your unit is dead.

Hence, the unit is stuck at bios, asking you to press F1 to continue as CMOS checksum failure.

To temporary bypass, connect a usb keyboard, and press F1 to continue.

For a perm fix, open the casing and replace the battery, CR2032.

Then power up the machine, wait for the beep, then press the following key sequence.

Del (to enter bios)

F10 key (to save current config)

Enter key (to confirm save and reboot)

That should save CMOS settings and system will boot normally even when power down for long time.
