I need to migrate a TMS running 12.6 on a VM with Win2003 (SQL2005) to a new VM running Win2008 or Win2012.
Initially I was thinking about upgrading the old server to the latest TMS v13.1 supported on Win2003 and then backup the db.
But I've doubts if such a db backup can be restored on a Win2008 with SQL2008. Is this documented somewhere?
I know for Win2012 support I need TMS v14.4 so direct migration from Win2003 to this server is I think not possible.
What are my options?

Hello Geert -
From my understanding of SQL upgrades, as long as you go forward, you can migrate and older SQL database from one server to another of a different version. In your example SQL 2005 to SQL 2008.
In regards to migrating TMS, it's simply installing TMS on the new server and pointing it to the new SQL database location, it should detect the TMS database and perform and upgrade to whatever version of TMS you're installing.
Here is a TMS migration document found here in the forums.

Hello Patrick, thanks for the feedback. But the referenced doc is a bit outdated.
I see in the TMS 14.4 installation guide also some notes for migration but they always use the same TMS IP address and name.
So I fear if I move to a server with different name and IP address, I will have problems with the db restore.

If you change the SQL IP or name, the installer will give you the option to specify a those details, and it will detect the old database and upgrade it.
If you change the TMS IP or name, there is an "Enforce Management Settings" that will update all managed systems with the new information from TMS.
