Unable to do anything with a MXP 770 via Serial or Telnet

Long story short:

For the past few days I've been trying to factory reset a Tandberg MXP 770 that is password locked (the person that knew the password is no longer working with us), when I connect to the device via Serial/RS232, for some reason I can't execute a single command.

The weird thing about it is that when I connect to the 770, nothing shows up, not even a feedback/error message when I execute a command, only when I reset the codec, while still connected, that I see some feedback on my screen like: "Loading..... Booting up, etc, Firmware Version, etc etc"...

I was also able to connect via Telnet, but the second I connect, it prompts me to enter a password, but that's not the problem, the problem is that I can't type any letters into the password field, it seems like it's locked or something.

The problem is not on my end since that very same day I was able to successfully reset a different Tandberg Codec without a single issue (that one gave me feedback/etc when entering a command, etc).

What should I do? I need all the help in the world here.

Hi,

It could be that the 770MXP has a different serial port mode configuration.

xConfiguration SerialPort 1 Mode:

Maybe you can try to break the boot sequence and do a eee (reset) to the codec.

a) reboot the codec

b) break the boot sequence.  (ctr+break if using hyperterminal, Alt+B if using teraterm/putty)

c) then type eee

d) then type q

e) codec should reboot now

note: the option and bandwidth keys will be wipe out upon factory reset.

Will definitely try that eee reset tomorrow morning.

Btw, how can I check whether the "xConfiguration SerialPort 1 Mode" option is set correctly? better yet, what should it be set to?

Thanks.

Remember, the codec is password locked.

Since you do not have the password now, and serial output is not printing out any commands, I am afraid there is no way to check.

The setting should be : control

Sent from Cisco Technical Support iPhone App

So that setting will not be displayed over the Admin Diagnostics section in the codec's menu (I do have access to that, more accurately, a password is not required for that).

Will the eee reset procedure work regardless of the option set to the  "xConfiguration SerialPort 1 Mode"?

It will not be displayed.

eee should work.
