upgrade path from cts 1.7.0 to cts 1.9.3 for CTS3000/CTS500/CTS3010 rooms with 7970 Ip phones

Can we safely upgrade directly or do we have to go via an intermediate version such as 1.8?
Ip phone firmware is SIP70-8-5-3S to be upgraded to SIP70.9-3-1S

The recommendation is to upgrade to CTS 1.7.4, then you can go to 1.9.3. CTS 1.9.3 file extension changes from .sbn to .cop.
