The Cisco Umbrella Roaming Client has been a cornerstone of DNS security for millions of users worldwide. In our continual efforts to improve and innovate, we introduced the Cisco Secure Client — our next-generation unified endpoint agent. This new client encompasses all the benefits of the Umbrella Roaming Client while offering a more advanced security solution, including a suite of security service modules, superior performance and extended compatibility. In line with our communication in October 2023, Cisco will be ending support for the Umbrella Roaming Client software on April 2, 2025. What this means for you is:
- Your current Umbrella protection, Umbrella support and feature functionality will not change. Umbrella Roaming Client installed on existing devices will continue to provide protection as before. However, software maintenance and support specific to Umbrella Roaming Client will conclude on April 2, 2025. Thereafter, our product team will focus on the Cisco Secure Client software only.
- Moving forward, we encourage you to install the Cisco Secure Client only. Cisco Secure Client includes all the Umbrella capability provided in the Umbrella Roaming Client and Cisco AnyConnect. Many Umbrella customers are already benefiting by virtue of migrating to Cisco Secure Client.
- All customers with valid licenses and active Umbrella support contracts are eligible to migrate to Cisco Secure Client for entitlement to the Umbrella Roaming Security Module, which includes all the Umbrella Roaming Client capability, at no charge. You can download the Cisco Secure Client software from the Umbrella dashboard.
- Starting April 2, 2025:
- new device registration of Umbrella Roaming Client will no longer be possible
- the Umbrella Roaming Client software download will be removed from the Umbrella dashboard
We recommend that customers begin planning and scheduling their migration now.
