Update, January 31, 2025:

Starting around February 17th, 2025 DNS services will be available on two separate sets of anycast IPs in Jeddah.

  • Global anycast IPs: 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220
  • Saudi Arabia alternate anycast IPs: 146.112.70.70 and 146.112.71.71

Which IPs should I use?

The global anycast IPs are the default configuration for roaming devices, virtual appliances and more. They are recommended for all customers around the world, including in Saudi Arabia.

Due to the unique nature of ISP interconnectivity in Saudi Arabia, there is a chance that customers in The Kingdom may experience higher than expected latency or observe DNS traffic going outside the country. In this case, the Saudi Arabia alternate anycast IPs should be utilized. For resiliency these alternate IPs also work in many of our other data centers should Jeddah be temporarily unavailable, or user are traveling abroad.

Using the Saudi Arabia alternate IPs:

  • Network deployments: Configure your DNS server, router or other network devices with 146.112.70.70 and 146.112.71.71 instead of 208.67.220.220 and 208.67.222.222
  • Virtual Appliance (Version 3.7.1+): Enter Configuration Mode and run the command 'config va resolvers 7071'
  • Security Connector for iOS (Version 1.7.3+): An organization-wide setting must be enabled by the product team. Contact your account team or support with your organization ID number, and the setting will be enabled for you.
  • Secure Client for Windows, macOS, Android: The Saudi alternate resolver IPs are not yet available. A post will be made when an updated client is released with support for the alternate IPs.

Original Notice

This September we will be enabling Umbrella services in our newest edge data center in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.

DNS services will launch between September 6th and 11th.

Inbound traffic to the Jeddah data center is controlled by anycast routing, so no customer action is required.

This new edge data center expands our rapidly growing Global Network. It is our 48th data center globally. Due to our innovative Global Cloud Architecture and anycast routing, each additional data center reduces latency and increases overall availability.

Also, while we strive to maintain high uptime for all of our data centers, our augmented routing solution seamlessly and automatically routes traffic to the next nearest data center if, for any reason, a data center is unavailable.
