AD Schema Extension for Second Unity Install

A CCM 4.1.3 and a Unity 4.0.4 server will be installed into an AD forest that already has a CCM (3.x) and Unity (3.x) servers servicing users on the east coast. The new CCM and Unity servers will service users on the west coast, whose mailboxes also reside on Exchange 2003 servers on the west coast.

When installing the Unity server, what will be the implications of extending the AD schema again for the new version of Unity? The schema was extended when the existing 3.x version of Unity was installed. Will extending the schema again for the imminent 4.x Unity installation have any effect on the existing Unity? Or should the schema even be extended again at all?

Thanks,

Michael.

I see one problem that you may or may not have experienced:

"Cisco Unity 3.1 does not support Exchange 2003. This means that you cannot run Exchange 2003 Forestprep to begin an upgrade to Exchange 2003, you cannot have an Exchange 2003 server in the same Active Directory forest as a Cisco Unity server, and you cannot home Cisco Unity subscribers in Exchange 2003. Before you run Exchange 2003 Forestprep, you must first upgrade Cisco Unity to version 4.0(3) or later. Otherwise, the changes that Forestprep makes to Active Directory will cause Cisco Unity to stop functioning."

If you had an exchange 2000 environment, you would just run the adschema setup for unity 4.x and the schema extension is backwards compatible for 3.x. You can run the schema extension for unity 4.x anytime before you install Unity 4.x

If you want unity 4.x installed, you would have to extend the schema (even though schema was extended for unity 3.x).
