Adding a 2nd gateway router - failure

Hi,

Our voice system is working but only has a single Cisco router (2821) acting as the gateway for external calls.

We purchased a 2nd Cisco 2821 router -(I know router is EOL)- with the exact same interfaces and copied the working router configuration to this new router. We swapped the working router with this new router -- to ensure all would be fine if the primary router was to fail.

With this new router in place, no calls could be made in or out. With the original working router back in place, all works.

The Cisco Press "Configuring Cisco Unified Communication Manager and Unity Connection" book indicates the MAC address of the facing Ethernet interface needs to be configured in Call manager. We cannot figure out in Call Manager where to configure or even verify this step - the book fails to explain this part.

Can anyone help?

We are running:

Cisco Unified CM Administration
System version: 10.5.2.11900-3

Thanks

Frank

Is this MGCP? H.323?? SIP??

What do you use for PSTN?? PRI? FXO? SIP?

What troubleshooting have you done so far?

Hi Jaime,

pic attached - it is a MS Windows Paint file showing the details

Thanks

Yeah, there are two GWs there, one H.323 and one MGCP, my best guess, is that you're using MGCP.

What about the other questions???

The H323 and MGCP are performed on the same physical device (Cisco 2821 router).

We would like to add a second physical device (another Cisco 2821 router) to the list.

Thanks

Frank

OK, for H.323 just add it and fill in the blanks, for MGCP, choose the right model and the right service modules before any config in the actual ISR.

So without changing anything in the CUCM, we just made a duplicate of the gateway router, same model and modules, exact same config, same IP addresses, all identical.

We swapped out the production router with this new router and voice calls stopped working.

We are attempting to have a hot spare and not really add a 2nd gateway.

I think we are missing something but don't know what it is.

Thanks

Frank

What troubleshooting was performed to try to find the cause???

Without looking at all of your config on CUCM and the ISR there's no way to tell what might be wrong.
