BE5K to BE6K Migration (Licensing & ESW/UCSS)

We have a customer who has a BE5K running 8.6 and wants to migrate to a BE6K running 10.5. The customer has 170 CUWL licenses covered under ESW and UCSS contracts through another reseller. The BE5K has 192 phones licensed on the system and therefore has 22 licensed phones that do not have an active ESW and UCSS contract.

The BE6K ordering guide states "The BE6000 hardware bundles may be ordered without licensing when migrating from an older UCM solution with
an active UCSS contract, which allows license transfer at no cost."

Since not all of their licenses are covered by an active contract could we sell them ESW & UCSS for the remaining devices which would generate a new ESW & UCSS contract for the 22 licenses and still be able to order through licensing desk a software upgrade and license migration for all 192 devices using these two separate contracts from two different resellers?

Regards,

Dave

Yes, you can order the needed licenses and migrate the rest, that's one possible option.

Please remember though, that CUWL licensing is not entirely based on the number of phones as DLUs were, and if any of those phones are second or third devices that are to be used by the same user, then they can assign up to 10 devices to a single user without needing any further licenses.  If all 192 devices are going to separate users, then you will need 192 licenses, but it doesn't make sense to buy CUWL licenses for those devices, as UCL licenses can cover those phones at a discounted price.  CUWL should usually only be purchased if they have or plan to have multiple devices per user.
