Unity 4.0(4) Sr1 has the fix. You could try the workaround below:

CSCee44191 SA cant import users when there is a NULL value in fn or ln

Symptom:

A user import using the SA (System Administrator) web

console fails with the following error:

"Unrecognized error 0x80041908 has occurred.

The new subscriber was not successfully added."

Conditions:

This occurs when the user being imported has a NULL

value in their first or last name fields.

Workaround:

Use the CUBI (Cisco Unity Bulk Import) tool to perform

the import.

Almost certainly a rights issue.

To be clear, you aren't importing a user from Exchange 2003, you're importing them from AD. Try using the Directory Access Diagnostic (DAD) tool that you'll find in the Tools Depot on your desktop - log in as the directory facing account and point it to one of the users you are having trouble importing. It'll run through the rights on the properties we need to touch/read and if there's a problem, report what it is.
