I have a basic question that many may know the answer to. Cisco phones plugged into a CUCM 5,6,7,8x call manager - do the phones request the time from the CUCM cluster or does the CUCM cluster broadcast out the time to the phones? The question has been brought up and with a little searching the web and the forums - I have not found a clear answer.
Thanks.

In general all the phones get their time from call manager. Depending on model 7940/7960 will get the time with the offset applied from call manager, whereas the 7941/7961/7970 phones will get their time as UTC/GMT and then apply the offset locally. SIP phones use the NTP phone reference in call manager to contact the NTP server specified and then apply the offset based on their configuration file.

so does the phone ask for the update or it is automatically pushed via call manager and and an enterprise/service paramater or timer?

It is pushed from the CallManager server to the phone after the phone requests the time: CCM|StationD: (0000343) DefineTimeDate timeDateInfo=12/13/2010 16:39:28,1 systemTime=1292276368.

How often does the phone ask for it and can that interval be configured? If so, how?
