Background: I've spent my career in storage hardware and software for the enterprise ... think mainframe disk arrays, tape libraries, storage area networks, backup and archive software ... you get the picture.
So to work for a company that makes fun Flip camcorders, TelePresence, WebEx conferencing, IM, video phones, video sharing portals, etc ... and an integrated portal software (Quad) that ties it all together for one-stop shopping ... this is "big fun"! But I have to say the big fun became "gigantic fun" today with the announcement of Cisco Cius!
Anyone else want one, besides me?!

Gigantic fun is right. And lots of choices. Not only do we have the option to use the Cisco Cius but all of the other Cisco clients including the VXC (virtualization experience client), Cisco Quad webphone, the contact center desktop, webex connect and the unified personal communicator w MSFT office integration. Wow, we've come a long way since the introduction of the IP Phone 7900 series!
Yes, I'll take a Cius.

Yeah, i'll take one too
Considering that we are on the verge to starting mobile development targeting Android, it would'nt be a bad addition to our collection of devices.

So that was 8 months ago....
It seems the Cius is still a VERY rare item.
Anyone have a idea of when the release cycle will be? There have been many, many new products to hit the market since the annoucement, some good, some not so good, but at least they are out there. Now I understand Cisco waiting to get the developers on board, but there are at least 5 Android tablets out now so I have to think there are plenty of developers for Cisco. Perhaps Cisco is waiting for Honeycomb; well it's here....
Any product managers that can even hint at a roll-out timeline?
IMHO another 6 months and the product will be an also ran.
Cheers,
Bob James

Thanks guys,
In speaking with local Cisco people here, no one has one, so I wouldn't hold my breath for March if Cisco internal doesn't have them yet.
Just my two cents,

Yes, Cisco already conveyed that there would be around 40 that would be provided to the theater leads so yes it will be hard to get a hold of them at the beginning

We're into April 2011.. any status on when the Cius is going to start shipping to customers?
04-03-2011 08:06 PM
Patrick,
Customer orders are now being accepted for Cisco Cius. Ordering guide was posted internally on friday April 01 and the PDF is being expedited through processing for Partner access as well. Cisco UC Advanced Specialists are authorized to resell Cisco Cius. Upon receipt of an order on behalf of a customer, orders will be assigned New Product Hold (NPH) status. This is customary for Cisco endpoints but is particularly important with an innovative solution, such as Cius, that spans across a number of architectures.
The IP Communications Business Unit is also working with Cisco Services on an Experience Assurance Program, which all orders placed shall go through. This is a questionnaire designed to ensure that customers networks are ready and positioned to deliver the best possible experience with Cius. Ordering guide will share more details around this process flow.
Shipment wise, a group of preselected key customer accounts that were chosen in partnership with IPCBU and Cisco Collaboration Sales Engineering are receiving tablets for scaled production deployments now through May. Global GA targeted for declaration on or around May 31, 2011.

Kirk,
Wow, that is great news. Hopefully Cisco will push some out to some employees too.
Thanks for the info,
Patrick

Patrick,
I believe that is the intent of Cisco IT - though my guess is that large scale rollouts to a wide employee population would likely be a phased rollout based on tablet availability and IT's internal resources to support it. Our mailers have been hit with a ton of inquiries about being able to place customer orders so momentum continues (we had over 450 applications for customer trials - was off the charts! Inquiries the last few days is yet another signal that we're meeting the need of business customers.)
Cisco employees shall be great embassadors for the solution, no doubt. Customer and partner facing employees I'd guess would likely be the first to see them but that said, I'm not part of those plan discussions so I should note this is pure speculation on my part.
Anyway, stay tuned. As we hit additional milestones, I'll come back to this community with updates on any public assets members can check out.
Thanks for being a member of our Collaboration Community and for checking in on Cisco Cius.

When will the ordering guide be posted for partners? Or has it become available? Looking specifically for part number. Thanks!
04-05-2011 11:14 AM
Yes.
Available to authorized partners with login access via the partner cius page on Cisco.com at: www.cisco.com/go/partnercius
An update is being published as we speak for a change made to an accessory part so if you download now, be sure to come back in next 24-48 hours for version 1.1 (the updated version). Not a critical item but nonetheless, an updated rev in publication cycle now.
Calling out to pay particular attention to the promo section for any customer discussions.
