I'm not sure if I've seen this topic posted anywhere. I have a dell 1950 server with cucm server preloaded. I'm trying to figure out the cable connection that is made to the switch and how to set it up using VMware, or if there is another way.

Just to get this out of the way: This had better be for lab purposes because Dell hardware is explicitly not supported by Cisco for production, even on Specs-Bassed deployments.
The following are NOT supported:
Cisco, HP or IBM server models that do not satisfy the rules of this policy.
Cisco 7800 Series Media Convergence Servers (MCS 7800) regardless of CPU model
Cisco UCS Express (SRE-V 9xx on ISR router hardware)
Cisco UCS E-Series Blade Servers (E14x/16x on ISR router hardware)
Any other 3rd-party server vendor (such as Dell, Fujitsu, Oracle/Sun, NEC, etc.)
Cisco TAC is not obligated to troubleshoot UC app issues if the apps are deployed on unsupported hardware.
Having said that this is a generic ESXi question that is not specific to CUCM. Here's a document to get you started:
http://www.vmware.com/files/pdf/virtual_networking_concepts.pdf Beyond that the general idea is a basic vSwitch with a few active ports in it. You can use an EtherChannel if you wish.

Yes, this is for a Lab environment. Thanks for the link, there wasn't any useful information regarding my issue. Informative though.
