Our customer has CUCM v. 6.1.3.100-16 on 7825I3 platform with 830 phone license authorized. What is the most efficient way to upgrade this version of CUCM to 8.0 version and get new CUCM apliance with same version for clustering or get new version and install on the customer server.

You can do a direct jump from 6.1.3 to 8.0. So one can install 8 on the new server and import the data and you can then add servers to the cluster. Use the PUT tool to get the software assuming they have UCSS.

Pls help to clarify.
We have CUCM v. 6.1.3.1000-16 on 7825I3 platform. On this platform we can install CUCM 8.0 with memory upgrade.
Regarding procedure in the "Cisco Unified Communications Solutions Ordering Guide" I've genereted next.
Product Description Quantity
CUCM-USR-LIC Top Level Sku For User License 1
MIG-CUCM-USR-A Migration to UC Manager Enhanced - Less than 1K Users 276
UCSS-UCM-1-1-A UC Manager Enh UCSS Less than 1K users - 1 user - 1 year 276
UCM-7825-80 CUCM 8.0 7825 1
Included: CUCM-PAK Include PAK Auto-expanding PAK for CUCM 1
Included: CUCM-USR Include PAK Auto-expanding User for CUCM552
Included: UCM-7825-80-UKIT CUCM 8.0 Upgrade Media Kit 1
Included: UCM-7825-UPG-NODE CUCM 7825 Upgrade Node 1
Included: UCSS-UCM-PAK Include PAK Auto-expanding UCSS PAK for CUCM1
Is this everything that I need for upgrade existing CUCM from ver 6.1.3 to 8.0?
276 is number of registered devices on existing CUCM.
What about migration of existing DLU.

Existing DLU will be migrated when you take a backup and restore. This only has CUCM, if you have Uconn you need to do the same for that product too under 3x3

So, if I understand the given specification is correct if we want upgrade existing CUCM (6.1.3) to 8.0 without any additional items?
Next question:
if we have compatible hardware:
x3250 Server
Single Intel 3050 Xeon 2.13GHz
2GB RAM
2x 160GB Hard Disk
and only want to by new version of CUCM for this server we need next:
CM7.1.2-K9-X3250-M SW Only, Unified CM 7.1.2 For IBM X3250-M2 or 7825-I4 | 1 | 21 Days
Included: CCX-70-CM-BUNDLE CCX 7.0 UCM 5 Seat ENH Bundle - ONLY with NEW UCM | 0.00 | 1 | 21 Days
Included: CUCMS-EVAL-K9 CUCMS Monitoring Bundle Evaluation | 0.00 | 1 |
Is this correct? What about DLU from existing server?
Thank in advance.

The BOM above is 7.1.2, If you want to do 8 use 3x3 program or CUWL to get the software. Run DMA to port your data/licensing to the new servers. I would recommend looking at UCS servers or worst case MCS servers as opposed to OEM unless that's what your customer wants. It will make it easier from a support perpective. Also long term roadmap is favorable towards UCS

Hello all,
I too have a customer that wants to upgrade from 6.1(3) to 8.x... We are trying to lead them to 3&3 Migration, but they want to see what the alternative would be if they didn't prefer to pay for UCSS (thus leaving the migration option).
I doubt they would try CUWL, as there are only 100 users and they are not using any other UC products.
The main reason we have suggested an upgrade, is that their current servers and software are not covered by a service contract and the servers are HP models that a new contract cannot be attached (ie. E-o-support).
So, is there any other upgrade options, like the ones available for 6.x to 7.x?
And a second question: Would they need to buy a service contract for their existing UC deployment, only to move the SAME version onto new hardware (a current compatible MCS is being considered).
Thanks...

3x3 would be the best way since even with UCSS it is very cost effective. CUWL is also good if you have other UC apps and can be looked at with Cisco programs like Collaboration Breakaway. If neither works then the 3rd preferred option is to purchase upgrade SKU which is usually 50% the cost of list price. The OG has all the details
Under CUCM-USR-LIC you will see SKU for the upgrade outside of the 3x3

If these faxes are analog devices or as Cisco refers to them as Essential, then you need to use Essential MIG SKU for 14.

Yes it is Fax machine on voice gateways.
04-25-2011 06:10 AM
As far as I know, you would replace MIG-PUBLIC-IP-DEV with MIG-CUCM-ESS-USR-A (which is called an "Essential" user license, used for Analog devices)...
Of course, Srini can correct me if necessary
EDIT: A second too late
