How to get redudancy with SIP Trunking

We paln to install SIP Trunk with CUCM 7X. We will be deploying two different scenarios :

Scenario 1 : Buy two trunks ( one each from diff vendor) in same physical location. And in this case, the SIP trunk providers are not our MPLS provider.

Scenario 2 : Buy one trunk in San Jose and another trunk in New York  from our MPLS provider who also provides SIP Trunk in SJ and NY. Both SJ and NY are connected to the same MPLS provider.

Will I be configuring two RG ( one for each SIP trunk ) and place these RGs into one RL ( I mean the tradional approach as we do with H323 or MGCP GW wit PRI).

I will appreciate if someone can shed some light how to configure the above two diff scenarios pls.

Thanks,

AB

If the two SIP trunks are similar enough (other than IP addresses), you may also use SRV record to achieve redudancy.  Then in CUCM you just need to configure one SIP trunk other than two.  This could simply the dial plan a little bit.

Hi Hou,

Thanks for your kind response. So when I define SRV record under SIP Trunk config on CUCM Device>Trunk>SIP Trunk the provider needs to have DNS implemented right ?

Regards,

Anil

The provider does not need DNS.  CUCM would need DNS.  It doesn't have to be a public DNS.  It could be a DNS server running on the private network.
