HTTP Error 503 when access Directory and Services URL

*Running CCM ver 5.1.2.1000-11* After restarting the CallMgr services on my Publisher and two Subscribers, I found that I'm unable to restart the Cisco CallManager Cisco IP Phone Service on the Publisher. However, it is running on both Subscribers. I didn't think this would matter much since the phones are registered to the Subscribers, but none the less, I get an error each time I attempt to access the Directories and Services features from any IP phone.(7961) I'm open to all suggestions...

I ended up pointing the phones to one of my subscribers, but I'm curious to see if anyone else had a similar issue with this service not starting on the Publisher. Is it best practice to have a service such as IP Phone Service running from the Publisher? IDK

Hi Lamar,

My understanding of this is that the "best practice" is to not have this running on the Publisher. Here is a clip of a good doc;

Enter the URL of the server where the Cisco IP Phone Services application is located. Make sure that this server remains independent of the servers in your Cisco CallManager cluster. Do not specify a Cisco CallManager server or any server that is associated with Cisco CallManager (such as a TFTP server or directory database publisher server).

For the services to be available, the phones in the Cisco CallManager cluster must have network connectivity to the server.

Hope this helps!
