Hi,

Anyone rolled this codec out?  Would like to know what was required to get it out there and what the results were.

Hopefully others from the community can share 'real world' iLBC experience results with you.

Just a quick bit of information on codec selection from CUCM standpoint.  When configuring the codec in the regions setting, you do not actually select a codec, but a bandwidth.  Based on the bandwidth configuration, CUCM will filter any codec that requires a higher bandwidth that the selected bandwidth.  Once the higher bw codecs are filtered off, the CUCM will use a ranked/ordered list of codecs for media negotiation.  Based on the peer's codec preference, we will select a codec from our list.

So, from the Cisco standpoint, iLBC is the preferred codec when you drop to the 16kps codecs.  But that codec will only be selected if both sides support iLBC.  If both sides do not support iLBC, the codec selected will probably be a g729 codec.

I am curious what the mindset on iLBC vs. iSAC which is supported in Cisco Unified Communications Manager 8.0.  On paper, iSAC looks like the better choice because it is a wide band codec and seems to be more widely used in general by internet voice.  Anybody made iSAC vs. iLBC codec decisions and if so, why did you choose the one that you did?
