Migrate Unity to same AD new Exchange Organization

Hello all,

I have a customer that has an exchange organization with illegal characters in the name. The illegal characters are preventing a typical upgrade from exchange 2000 to 2003. So the exchange team is going to remove exchange 2000 completely and install exchange 2003 from scratch. I am running Unity 4.01. I know I need to upgrade to Unity 4.03 or later before I can support E2K3. Here is the process that I understand that needs to be done.

All of the Usernames will stay the same and the accounts will have the same guid.

We will just be removing all exchange properties from all accounts in AD.

Can anyone see steps that are missing?

1. Upgrade to 4.03 or later,

2. Run DiRT backup.

3. Allow Exchange team to remove E2K and install E2K3.

4. Once exchange is installed Run Permissions wizard to make sure all unity accounts have correct permissions.

5. Run Message Store Manager and rehome Unity to the E2K3 server.

6. Open SA and create test account.

7. Test Unity to make sure it can send/retrieve messages, light MWI etc.

8. To get exclusive access to UnityDB stop and start SQL services.

9. Run "c:\commserver\utilites\UnitydisasterrecoveryRestore /dirtyrestore" to override the clean server requirement check.

10. Complete the restore process.

After thinking through this process is there a way to just run the syncher? "UnityDirSync.exe" Can this process be run seperate from the entire restore process? Because I only want to update the mailbox location of each subscriber or is it not that easy?

Any comments are appreciated.

Mark

The only step you're missing is to upgrade the Exchange System Manager from 2000 to 2003. You will need to do that before step 5. Other than that it looks good to me.

Thanks,

Keith

Thank you for the prompt reply Keith.

Is there the possibilty of just running the syncher process without DiRT? Because all that I am trying to change are the links to the mailboxes in exchange.

Thanks,

Mark
