Hi
i understand the process to change the hardware to migrate from CUCM 4.x to 8,but i not understand what happen with the old phones licenses. The customer nedd buy a need ones o i can translate like old licenses to DLU like i did before when i migrate one customer from 4.x to 7.1.
The process is the same or need buy need licenses for 8?.
thank you

Not sure I understand the question but basically all your existing licenses will migrate with the upgrade. If you need to add more with 7.X except 7.1.5 you add DLU for new users. With 7.1.5 and 8.X you have to use UCL

Hi
I have the same problem, how to migrate 4.x phones to under 8.x UCL licensing?

A few things to keep in mind when upgrading from 4.x to 8.x.
1) 8.0 is UCL based licensing, but still enforced by DLUs.
2) There is no direct upgrade path from 4.x to 8.0. You will need to go through 6.1 or 7.1.
3) 6.1 EoS on Sept 3. You will not be able to order 6.1 media after that date.
4) 7.1(5) will not upgrade to 8.0, but will to 8.5 when it comes out in Q4CY10.
5) When going from 4.x, to 8.x, you will need to find a way to generate DLUs for your upgrade this can be done in one of two ways.
a. Use the DMA tool to upgrade from 4.x to 6.1 or 7.1. This will generate DLUs for you. You can then upgrade to 8.x.
b. With SO#s or device report as proof as purchase send a request to licensing@cisco.com to get the number of DLUs that you will need to support your environment. This assumes that you will be installing 8.x fresh and re-provisioning.
6) When you order 8.0 and UCL, you will get a PAK with number of node licenses that you will need. You will also get some DLUs. These DLUs are to allow you to do Mobility Single Number reach. The will not be sufficient nor intended to cover the phones that you have registered in 4.x.
HTH, If not, keep asking questions.

I'm preparing to do a similar upgrade, CUCM 4.2 to 8.5 (with 7.1(5) as the interim step for data migration). We will be deploying onto new hardware and adding 2 additional nodes which under the new licensing model don't have an additional software cost as I understand it. How will we go about getting the new node licenses - is it something that we can request along with the migration license (via an e-mail to licensing@cisco.com) or will we need to do this with a new purchase of UCL licenses?

All you need to do is configure the zero dollar quote using CUCM-USR-LIC-ADD. Then place the order, provide that SO# to licensing and that is proof for them that node licenses aren't counted. Yes it seems stupid to place a zero dollar order but that's the process I have followed for this, Uconn HA license, port upgrades and I have got the keys

I am about to do this same upgrade for customer. Is there any other input you can recommend? Thanks in advance.
