Well, if Unity is picking up and you're not hearing anything, the best place to start is with this tech tip on one-way audio issues with Call Manager:

Do you have Firewalls or ACLs possibly blocking RTP from the phone to Unity/Exchange server?

Hello -
Check the phone's DN configuration in CallManager and see if it has a Voicemail Profile defined. If it is set to None, you will get the behavior described. That's because the Voicemail Profile tells CCM which CTI route point/hunt list to dial to get to a Unity server port. Once this has been set and the phone reset in CCM, pressing the Messages button should give you one of two responses:
1. Opening Greeting if the extension of the phone is not assigned to a Unity subscriber
2. Prompt for password if the extension is assigned to a Unity subscriber.
This is one of the features known as Easy Message Access.
Hope this helps!
