Questions regarding changing Partner Server

We are going to change the partner server from Exchange 2000 to Exchange 2003. In view of this, we have already upgraded the Exchange Admin software and re-run the permission wizard.

What should I do with mailbox accounts in the present Exchange 2000 partner server ? Should I move the accounts? If yes , is there any preference on what Exchange server I should move it ?

Please advise. Thanks.

I'll assume that you have added the Exchange 2003 server into your ORG. You'd move some those accounts to the Exchange 2003 server if you are having performance issues on the Exchange 2000 server.

Changing the Exchange Partner Server

Our Exchange team is asking us to have the Front end Exchange 2003 server to be the Unity partner server.

But I have noticed that creation of mailboxes is not allowed on the Front End Exchange server ( not enabled) , will this create any problem with the Unity server ?

Please advise .

You can have a partner server with no mailboxes. The mailboxes can reside on a different server.

Quick question, this is what we wanted to do as well, have our Front-End Exchange 2003 server be the partner server. However, when we had to pick our server, we had to pick a mailstore as well to continue. Since a FE Exchange 2003 server doesn't have any mailstores we could not proceed with the wizard, until we picked a back-end Exchange server. So what did we do wrong?

Front End servers don't support MAPI clients and don't have mailboxes so the partner server can't be a FE server. It will need to be an Exchange 2003 with a mailbox store and it will need to be on the same LAN as Unity.

Thanks,

Keith
