If you have users seperated by dialing domains....can you still send messages to them in a dial by name fashion (what about by number as well)

Hi,
Yes, subscribers can send messages to all Unity servers that access the same global directory. Either way of addressing the message -- spelling the name or entering an extension is fine. Just be sure to extend the addressing search scope to the global directory: In the SA on each Unity server, go to the Network > Primary Location > Addressing Options page, and in the Subscriber Searches section, select Global Directory. If you're also using AMIS/Bridge/VPIM, set the Blind Addressing search scope to Global Directory as well.

If you have overlapping directory numbers you need to place these phones in seperate dialing domains. How does Unity handle someone sending a message to another subscriber that has an overlapping directory number with someone in that users dialing domain? Does it always look for users in the subscribers dialing domain first....then look to other dialing domains if you have it set to search the global directory?

Hello,
If you have overlapping directory numbers, then subscribers in one dialing domain will not be able to dial just the extension to address a message to someone outside of the dialing domain. The number will always match on the recipient in the dialing domain, and not the person outside of the dialing domain. In this case, in order to address a message by number, the sender will need to first dial the Dial ID of the recipient's primary location and then the extension. Another solution is to assign alternate extensions that don't overlap. The Unity Networking Guide goes into some detail about the solutions available for the overlapping extensions problem. Here's the link to the section: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/sw/voicesw/ps2237/products_feature_guide_chapter09186a0080449a44.html#wp1353983.
Also, here's a link in the Unity Networking Guide that explains the algorithm that Unity uses when subscribers address a message by name and by number.
Hope this helps,
Nancy
