Threshold percentage for memory usage

Hi All,

May we know what is the threshold percentage that the memory usage is still acceptable or normal? We have MCS 7825I5 and the Physical Memory utilization is reaching up to 72% - 79%. Hope you can help me on this or may I ask if you have a document for reference.

Thank you very much and best regards,

RJ

Whats the application installed on MCS? Refer below Cisco doc:

"If CPU and memory utilization levels exceeds the  70 percent mark, then the Cisco Unified CM publisher and subscribers  that are participating in call processing could be overloaded ."

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/managed_services/8_5_1/CUCM/cucm_health.html#wp1101091

It could be due to servers being overloaded or memory leak. Fix for memory leak is to restart the server, if occurs again could be due to a big and you may need to upgrade.

Thanks for the reply Terry.

We have 3x MCS servers, the RAM usage:1) CUCM 8.6 Pub = 78%  2) Sub = 72% and 3) Unity Connection 8. = 77%

But the CPU usage is reach 5% only.

From your replied, exceeds on 70% is bad on the server. But from our server right now we found no issue on the system via RTMT.

Thank you.

I think its ok - its just you are reaching close to high utilization on memory but If its not increasing or doesn't go dramatically high I think you should be good. Just keep doing regular health checks.

Let us know if you have more questions.

Hi Terry,

The server will have a problems if both CPU and Memory usage exceeds 70%? Is it correct?

Thanks,

RJ

Hi Terry,

May we know what is the maximum threshold of memory utilization?

Thank you.

Hi Ralph,

Sorry for the delayed response. It says if memory is greater than 70% it's concerning. But I had MCS servers running above 70% without a problem. So if its not increasing and not causing any problem don't worry abt it but do keep a watch.

Hi RJ,

For MCS 7825I5, memory usage between 70%-80% is generally acceptable but should be monitored. If it consistently stays high, check active processes, swap usage, and system logs for potential bottlenecks. Above 80%, performance issues may arise. Cisco’s CUCM documentation can provide more insights on best practices.

This server reached its EOL quite a while ago, so you should consider replacing it.
