Is it possible for a telephone number to be shared for voice and fax.
Customer wants to have a single number published on business cards.
CallManager handles calls as normal but Unity would have to recognise an incoming fax message.
This document suggests it may be possible without explicitly saying so.

That document doesn't suggest it's possible, at least the last time I read it before posting it. This is not possible. If you read through the entire doc it talks about DID numbers for inbound faxes - each user will need a DID line for fax that's seperate from their voice line.

It's only possible if you have the gateway answer the call and play some IVR, not Unity. Since the gateway is in control of the call, it can still listen for the fax messages. However, in most cases you have the call go to a phone first and then forward to voicemail. In that scenario, the call has already been treated as voice. Unity is not able to interpret the fax tones and switch on the fly. For the T.37 implementation, Unity only is responsible for manipulating email, not terminate the faxes directly.

Thanks for the clarification. Couldn't see how a single DID would be capable of identifying faxes and dealing with them in a different manner to a voice call.
