I performed a COBRAS backup on Unity 7 and restored to a new v9 Pub/Sub cluster. I confirmed that everything migrated and also have DB replication. I didn't migrate voicemail messages though. I was using Unified Messaging on Unity 7.
Since i didn't migrate any messages.... will the old messages still be available on Exchange and Outlook?

This depends on how you are doing the migration process. For example if you are doing the cold migration process where you do a COBRAS export and
import into Unity connection and if you do not tick the option to migrate the voicemails they will still remain the users exchange inbox
However if you do a Hot Migration in terms of you have the unity servers digitally networked and if you do not select the option to migrate the voicemails messages they will be deleted from the users exchange inbox.
Please look at this link for more information on COBRAS including the help file

Thanks for your reply. We're planning a "cold" migration process.
What if i do select Migrate Messages and import to Unity Connection? It sounds like there would be two copies of all existing voice mails....one still in exchange and one imported to Unity Connection? That would actually out two copies into Exchange.
If i do not select to Migrate Messages.....they will stay in Exchange and the users will be able to listen to them from Outlook/OWA but no longer from the phone?

That seems to be the case as per the following
