Is it possible to install Unity VM only into an existing AD domain, then import users from AD and have the VM message store reside on the onbox Unity Exchange and leave the users emails on a offbox exchange?
We built a Unity 4.0.4 server into the domain and installed EX on the same server. During the message store setup, we selected the mailbox store to be the Exchange server running on Unity. Default users such as EAdmin appear to have mailboxes on the Unity Exchange. We can successfully import existing users from AD. When we leave a msg in Unity, it is delieved to the users EX email and not the Unity EX.
The customer thinks this is cool because they seem to have UM without paying for the license...

Here at Cisco we call that software piracy so you might want to make a few configuration changes. :)
They will need to make a new/second mailbox for each user. They can hind the second account from the GAL and disable the AD account associated with it as it doesn't need to login.
Thanks,
Keith

Thanks for your quick reply. So if I understand you correctly, we need to create duplicate users/mboxs is AD to use with Unity. We could do this by using AD or by using Unity SA to create the Users. Can we use the same alias for users as they use for network/email? Do you have any documentation that might explain this setup?
Thanks!
