upgrade CUCM cluster from 11.5(SU2) to 14(SU2)

Hi,
I need to upgrade a CUCM v11.5 (Mixed-Mode) cluster to v14, and I must to qualify the impacts

- 1 Publisher CUCM
- 2 Subscriber CUCM (call control)
- 2 Subscriber TFTP
- 2 IM&P

A) with RU upgrade it's possible to upgrade VM without automatic switchover? (because there are OS upgrade to CentOS7)

1) Upgrade phone

2) Uprgrade Publisher (Pub) to v14 WITHOUT switchover to v14
no impact for telephony?

3) Uprgrade TFTP number one (tftp1) to v14 WITHOUT switchover to v14
no impact for telephony?

4) Uprgrade Subscriber number two (Sub2) and IM&P number one (IMP-Pub) to v14 WITHOUT switchover to v14
no impact for telephony?

5) Uprgrade Subscriber number one (Sub1) and IM&P number two (IMP-Sub) v14 WITHOUT switchover to v14
no impact for telephony?

6) Uprgrade TFTP number two (tftp2) to v14 WITHOUT switchover to v14
no impact for telephony?

7) Switch Pub to v14

Switch tftp1 to v14

9) Switch Sub2 and IMP-Pub to v14

10) Switch Sub1 and IMP-Sub to v14

11) Switch tftp2 to v14

B) Or we must upgrade with automatic switchover (RU or PCD upgrade)

1) Upgrade phone

1) Uprgrade Pub to v14 and switchover to v14
when the Publisher use v14, all other node are in v11.5, no impact for telephony?

2) Uprgrade tftp1 to v14 and switchover to v14
no impact for telephony?

3) Uprgrade Sub2 and IMP-Pub to v14 and switchover to v14
no impact for telephony?

4) Uprgrade Sub1 and IMP-Sub to v14 and switchover to v14
during the Upgrade the phone log to Sub2
but when the Sub1 switchover to v14, all phone register to Sub1 without issue?

5) tftp2 to v14 and switchover to v14

C) use staging environment: Export VM v11.5 to staging environement, and upgrade all to v14 for testing ecosystem

during testing v14, if the configuration of the v11.5 change,  it's possible to use "Fresh Install with Data Import (V2V)" to export the last backup of v11.5 to import to staging v14? (pearhaps after two week)

thanks a lot

Option A will be best and  option B, we dont do.

Fresh install with data export doesn't use backup, install COP file on 11.5, export the data and use it during the 14 fresh install. There is also data export roll back cop if you want to revert.

Thanks Nithin

Hi Nithin,

Actually, for CUCM v11.5 (4000 devices), i have two vDisk 80G, it's not supported with v14

CUCM v14 requiered one vDisk 110G, i must use PCD for upgrade ?

or we can resizing the two vDisk 80G to 110G?

System version: 11.5.1.12900-21

Installation VMware: 2 vCPU Intel(R) Xeon(R) CPU E5-2640 v3 @ 2.60GHz, disque 1: 80Gbytes, disque 2: 80Gbytes, 8192Mbytes RAM, Partitions aligned

You can resize the second disk. This is explained in upgrade documentation that you are advised to read.

Yes i have seen this

thx

If you have why do you then ask?

Because i have find explicite document for 12.5 but not 14.

I meant for the resizing of the disk. For the specifics on disk size it’s recommended to look in the OVA file.
