Using VMO with a group mailbox

We have set up a single shared (group) mailbox which is defined as a subscriber within Unity 4.0(4). This is used for out-of-hours message for our internal service desk. All agents have access to this mailbox in addition to their personal mailbox. When agents highlight a message and click the playback the message a logon box appears prompting for username, password and domain. If they enter the credentials for the shared mailbox (i.e. the credentials of the 'shared' subscriber), then they can playback the message.

However, this information is not preserved across a reboot. Is there a way to prevent this additional authentication, especially considering the agents have sufficient MAPI permissions to open and read e-mails in the shared mailbox.

We have a similar situation here. You should be able to use ADUC to grant members of the internal service desk group 'Full Mailbox Access' to the 'shared' mailbox account.

Hope this helps....

An additional permission you "may" want to set is in the user's account, Exchange General tab - Delivery Options - Send As (or Send on behalf of) permission. That allows your users to forward voice messages from that inbox to other employees. This is how we manage the routing of voicemail sent to shared inboxes.

Sincerely,

Ginger
