Hi

We're working on a Centralized WAN design for a potential customer who currently uses Captaris CallXpress (version 6 I believe) for unified messaging. According to their website the product supports sccp integration with CallManager so I'm wondering if anyone has worked with the product and can give me some feedback. Specifically I'd be interested to know how it compares to Unity feature-wise. I know the customer uses callxpress's faxing capability extensively now so they'll want a good reason to replace it with a product without that functionality. I'd also like to know if callxpress supports G.729 and how its auto attendant features compare with Unity.

Thanks

I just migrated from a CallXpress 6 setup to Unity.

One of these days Unity will be able to perform some of the things CX can do in it's sleep. Until then...

Problems we ran into integrating to CM. CX won't work MWI with any line that starts with a zero UNLESS you apply a patch to the dll files. Ours worked for a few months and then gave up completely. I wasn't able to get Captaris to show any interest in fixing the bug. (This is why I'm now using Unity)

I had a dual integration model which required reconfiguring the ports. I purchased the maximum number of ports for CM, but my licensed ports limitation reduced the available number of ports to the difference between my dialogic boards and the CM ports.

Feature wise the administration of the Captaris is heads and shoulders above the kludgy WEB based Unity interface. The Captaris can automatically change greetings based on time of day and holidays to present customized greetings instead of simple we're closed offerings. The captaris is licensed on "Ports" and not subscribers. You want 1000 voicemail boxes, fine. You want 10,000, no difference, just add them.

I had mine set for G711 as that's what Captaris says to use.

I am still using my Captaris for the autoattendant capabilites due to the customization of prompts. (I am also working on moving the AA functions to my IPCC Enterprise)

Captaris also has other problems with the unified messaging and extensions that start with zero.

CallXpress doesn't do faxing. RightFax is the fax portion of the Captaris solution.
