Hi All,

Is there information about connecting a C210 M2 rack server to a CX4-120 EMC SAN? What would be required hardware/software wise?

Thanks

Kassim

Hi Kassim,

There is no specific document that would explain exactly for your scenario, however in general you need to make use of an HBA or CNA on the C210 to provide the server with storage access. You would additionally need a SAN fabric for which the CX4-120 would connect to. For example, this could be a Nexus 5000 or MDS switch. You would also connect the C210 HBA/CNA to this N5K/MDS switch. Then you would configure zoning to allow the C210 to communicate with the EMC storage array.

This is just a brief overview, so I hope that helps.

Thanks,

Michael

Hi Michael,

Thanks for your reply.

We have purchased a C210 with a Cisco Vic & have a MDS 9509 SAN switch. Would we able to connect using the Cisco Vic or would need we need another bit of hardware (Nexus 2k)?

Thanks

Kassim

N2K is just expansion to the N5K which is not required in your case

if you are looking to present the SAN to your C200 just configure your UCS with MDS swtich as described briefly by Michael above C200/HBA/FC -- MDS--- SAN

if you are looking for FCoE then this is differnt story which i dont think you looking for in your case

Hi Marwan,

Thanks for your reply.

You are correct in the sense that we just want to connect the C210 to the SAN (via MDS). Are we able to use the Cisco P81E vic as "standard" HBA for this?

Thanks

Kassim.

i didnt use it but if its the standard HBA of the C200 then i dont see any problem to use just like any normal HBA FC to Storage, as long as you can reach your storage array over the MDS !
