C220 M3 ESXi and UC app in single array-RAID 5

Dears,

We are configuring C220 M3 server for UC applications.

RAID configuration was completed with one 8-drive RAID-5 logical volume.

ESXi was installed in the virtual drive 0 with 1.903TB being reported.

Now when we started deploying OVA files we can see only one datastore and hence ESXi and UC applications resides in the same RAID 5 array.

And also, concept of RAID 1 for ESXi and RAID 5 for UC applications become obsolete.

Is it OK to proceeed with installing UC applications in the single datastore where ESXi resides.

Kinldy shed some light !!!

warm regards,

Mathew V

Hello Mathew,

Looks like you are deploying TRC server as per UC application's       recommendation.

http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/UC_Virtualization_Supported_Hardware#UC_on_UCS_Tested_Reference_Configurations

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/virtual/CUCM_BK_CA526319_00_cucm-on-virtualized-servers_chapter_00.html#CUCM_TK_I2904BB1_00

Above recommendation  could be based on the feature that C220 M3 server provides SD card where you can install ESXi and boot the server from. In this way, it provides the flexibility to preserve the datastore if the scenarios requires re-installation of ESXi.
