C240 M3S can't setup first boot with Cisco UCSC RAID SAS 2008M-8i Mezzanine in BIOS

Hi all,

I have a problem with C240 M3S with boot device.

1. There is a Cisco UCSC RAID SAS 2008M-8i Mezzanine in the C240 M3S

2. I set up the raid5 for four SAS disks with Cisco UCSC RAID SAS 2008M-8i Mezzanine

3. When I install the ESXi 5.5, it can be installed in SAS disks.

4.When I press F2 to setup bios for C240 M3S, I can't find the item for the raid  of Cisco UCSC RAID SAS 2008M-8i Mezzanine

5. C240 M3S can't boot from the Cisco UCSC RAID SAS 2008M-8i Mezzanine

6. BIOS have been reloaded for many times, it can't work.

Anybody have any idea for this problem? Thank you!

Sorry,

I can't find the item of local storage.

I never setup the boot order ( default bios can find raid card, I don't know that raid can't be found at this time )

Would you please offer any references, thank you

By the way, I check the install guide for c240 m3

If the RAID controller does not appear in the system boot order even with the option ROMs for those
slots are enabled, the RAID controller option ROM might not have sufficient memory space to
execute. In that case, disable other option ROMs that are not needed for the system configuration to
free up some memory space for the RAID controller option ROM.

this means I want to turn off all option ROMs to get more memory ? However, I turn off all option ROMs, I still can't find the raid.

Thank you very much!!

Hi WIlliam,

How did you configure the raid 5 on this controller?  If you use the CIMC to configure it, it might be possible that the optionROM for this controller is disable on the BIOS, if this is the case make sure to enable the optionROM for this controller (see attach screenshot)

Let me know if this helps.

one more thing, make sure that the boot order has the HDD as an option there.

Thank you.

The default of option is enable.

BIOS still can't find the raid item.

Attachment is the raid informaiton.

Thank you!

Hi William

Did you check the boot order? is the HDD included there?

Hi Manuel,

I checked the boot order, I can't find this item for the raid card.

Please refer to attachments, thank you!!

Configured the boot order with "virtual media" and "local storage".

From th screen shot that you provided add: "add virtual media" and "add local HDD", save and reboot the server. Regarding the optionROM, for this test enable all of them. If it still doesn't work you cal disable the others starting from PCIe 1 to the last PCIe slot, but make sure the mezzanine one where your raid controller is installed is enable.

Hi Manuel,

I setup the local HDD, it still shows error.

I also disable all options for ROM, it doesn't work.

please refer to my attachment

Thank you!

Hi

from the last screenshot you post, I cam see you also disable thr "All PCIe slot optiomROM" option, you need to keep it enable as well as the mezzanine  one.

HI,

All PCIe slot optiomROM -> enable

Messanine optionROM -> enable

reboot UCS > the error message is the same

"Failed to find boot device"

thank you!

Hi william,

At this point I would recommend to open a case with TAC to review the logs and check if the raid controller is failing.

Hi Manuel,

Thank you for your help. I will open a case with TAC.

Hi Manuel,

I replace the raid card, it works!! I can boot from disk.

Thank you!
