Do the c240's support direct connection to the FIs using emulex cna or do they have to go through a fex?

In other words, is direct connect (to FIs) only support using Cisco VICs?

Connectivity can be either direct or via a fex; but the I/O adaptor has to be a Cisco VIC.

So you can't manage c series rackmounts with anything other than a Cisco Vic card?

Emulex CNA adapters are mentioned here:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/c-series_integration/ucsm2-0-2/b_UCSM_202_C-Integration/b_UCSM_202_C-Integration_chapter_011.html

Does this article simply mean the adapter can be managed in UCSM rather than using it to actually manage the server?

The general prerequisites for Dual-wire integration with Cisco UCS Manager are built into the C-Series Rack-Mount Server CIMC release 1.4(6) or later. If you want to use the SingleConnect or direct connect modes you must have the following:

  • Server CIMC release 1.4(6) or later

  • Cisco UCS VIC 1225 Virtual Interface Card

  • Cisco UCS VIC 1227 (MLOM)

  • Cisco UCS VIC 1225T Virtual Interface Card

  • Cisco UCS VIC 1227T (MLOM)

Hello,

The document you have a link for is related to UCS 2.0(2) and 2.0(3) firmware. Our current firmware release is now on 2.2(5). What I'm getting at is the document you are looking at is several years old. While in earlier releases the other adapters should work this is no longer the case in newer firmware. If you look at Walter's response below those are our current requirements for integration.

Hope this helps,

Justin
