CISCO C240 M3S RAID issue only seeing 10 drives in a 24 Bay server.

Hi,

This might be an obvious question to some and i hope that you can help with a rather strange issues with a RAID drive issue.  I had a Raid card failure which resulted in a loss of all data on the raid set of disks, nothing critical just more of a frustration as we do regular backups so nothing lost long term.

The server had a new card ordered, LSI MegaRAID SAS 9271-8i (SLOT-4) with BBU

When the BIOS completed and i had the option to press Ctrl + H to enter the RAID card BIOS, only 10 drives are showing on the card.  Not 8 or 12 or 16 or 24, just 10.  The rest all show with a GREEN and ORANGE light that is SOLID.

Ive scanned the drives in the RAID card bios, checked the cables, replaced the cables with a working 24 Bay same type and model server and this didnt help the issue.

Under the CIMC, still only seeing 10 drives available.

I've replaced everything other than the SFF expansion card attached to the drive back-plane, its a P/N 01016P900-000-G

EXP CARD PILOT REV X04

C240 M3S server with 24 x 600GB SAS Drives

Latests firmware installed and all up to date as 3.3.0.4b

CIMC version 3.0(4K)

Any help or advice would be great as to why im only seeing 10 drives in the RAID card and not the full 24?  Seems an odd number not 8 or 16?  Would replacing the SFF card fix the issue as all the other parts are new?  Currently out of support so a simple set of checks to see if it can be saved would really help.

Thanks

Greetings.

Yea, 10 drives is an unusual cut off.

The 2 cables that go to the SAS expander are: Cable 1 controls drives 1–12 and cable 2 controls drives 13–24.

The symptom in general sounds like either bad sas expander or backplane,   I have seen a combination of christmas tree blinking light effects for both LEDs for bad backplane, as well as the dual solid lights.
