Hello everybody,

we have a problem with the Cisco C240 M5 servers in connection with AMD FirePro S7150.

Setup:

One CPU (Intel(R) Xeon(R) Bronze 3106 CPU @ 1.70GHz)

RAM: 128GB

GPU: AMD FirePro S7150 passiv cooling

The Graphic Card is in riser 1 (right side) in slot 2

BIOS: C240M5.4.1.1b.0.0124200238

BMC: 4.1(1c)

Advanced > PCI Configuration > Memory Mapped I/O Above 4 GB [Enabled]

In the constellation described in the setup, the server hangs on "Configuring platfrom hardware".

Without the GPU, the server starts normally. I tested two S7150s with both the same error.
Furthermore, I tested it with a second C240 M5, also the same error.

Thank you for your answers.

Checking the specsheet at https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/c240m5-sff-specsheet.pdf

there is a note about GPUs:

  • All GPU cards must be procured from Cisco as there is a unique SBIOS ID
    required by CIMC and UCSM.
  • All GPU cards require two CPUs and a minimum of two power supplies in the
server. 1600 W power supplies are recommended. Use the power calculator at
the following link to determine the needed power based on the options chosen
(CPUs, drives, memory, and so on):

Thanks,

Kirk...

Today I changed the setup again and installed second CPU. The problem remains. Is the graphics card S7150 Supported?

Checking the spec sheet at https://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/products/collateral/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/c240m5-sff-specsheet.pdf , as long as the card was ordered from the SKU of UCSC-GPU-7150x2, then it is supported.

In the spec sheet there is additional note:

Slot 5 on riser card 2 is the required slot for the first GPU

Slot 2 on riser card 1 is the secondary slot for a second GPU

I read this to mean, if you have only 1 GPU,,, it needs to be in slot #5 on riser 2
