Hi, Cisco Folks:
If some of my chassis's IOM is on 1.4(3L) and the rest of chassis IOM is in version 1.4(2b), IS IT supported by Cisco TAC?
OR
Must I upgrade to the SAME VERSION?
You see the problem is customer keeps buying new chassis, so definitely all of the chassis WILL NOT be in the same firmware releases.
Please advise.
Appreciated.

The IOM will always be automatically upgraded/downgraded to match the version of the Fabric Interconnect. It works just like when a Nexus 2k is connected to a Nexus 5k/7k parent switch.
I would recommend upgrading your UCS firmware to 1.43 as 1.42 had some issues.

Jeremy:
Thank.
May I know is there any "SERIOUS" issues with 1.4(2b) as 2 of my customers are running 1.4(2b)? I believe every release resolves some issues and introduces some issues.
May I know also WHICH particular version of 1.4(3#) would you recommend? 1.4(3i) or 1.4(3L).
Thank again, geek.

There is an issue in 1.42 that prevents you from associating a service profile to a blade. Several of our clients have run into this issue and upgrading to 1.43 resolved it.
I would go to the latest, 1.43L.

Jeremy:
NOTED with great thank.
You stand for speed and definitive. Cisco should be proud of you.
Now it is my time to see whether customer will agree to go to 1.4(3L).
Take care, dude.

KP / Jeremy,
Let me add something here:
If the cusotmer is adding new chassis, it would be a good proccess to make sure the firmware version on all the end points (IOM, CIMC, Adapters, BIOS) match what is running on the other chassis. Specailly the version should match the UCSM version. The reason being:
i) If there are any bug fixes or features implemented, they will need all the components running the same version
ii) The mixed versions are not tested and advisable

Hi, Abhinav:
Thanks.
For my customer case, ONLY the IOM firmware version is different. So I understand from Jeremy that it will be an auto step up or step down in sync with FI.
Let me know if I miss anything.

Hi SiM,
Yes the IOM do run the auto-upgrade if there is a difference between the firmware version it is running and the FI.
However between some close versions this auto-upgrade might not happen, this is due to an internal vlaue which we use to match the version between the FI and the IOM.
