Hello,

Rack mount servers are your standard "pizza boxes" where as blades are designed around the concept of state-less computing.

Additional information about blade environments:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/servers-unified-computing/ucs-b-series-blade-servers/datasheet-listing.html

Additional information about rack mount servers:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/servers-unified-computing/ucs-c-series-rack-servers/index.html

Hope this helps,

Justin

Rackmount servers can be standalone, or integrated with UCS Fabric Interconnects. In the latter case, the concept of state-less computing also applies .

A UCS domain (based on 2 fabric interconnects) can be made either of Blades (160) only, RackMounts (160) only, or a mix of Blades and RackMounts (160 combined).
