Connecting FC Tape Library to UCSM Rack Server

Hi,

I am hoping to get some advice on the following scenario, which i have had little success with so far.

What is the best practice for connecting FC Tape Library to a c240 M3?

c240 is currently connected via FI and managed via USCM (ver 3.1). Dell Tape Library SFP connected to Nexus 5K and we have created zoneset etc.

At the moment we can see the library and the drives that are zoned on the Windows Host but have lots of scsi errors on the Windows Host (c240).

FI is currently in EHM, Cisco example doc suggests changing this to Switch Mode and connect tape library via FI.

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/support/docs/servers-unified-computing/ucs-infrastructure-ucs-manager-software/116082-config-ucs-das-00.html

Question is if i reconnect Tape Library to FI is this a recommended configuration?

If we change FI to switch mode (from EHM), apart from FI restart what ramifications does this have for existing infrastructure?

I have asked Cisco support this question, but the only response i have had is the following example.

Appreciate any real world advice on this, thanks in advance,

Colin.

Hi Colin

Please have a look at

http://www.cisco.com/c/dam/en/us/td/docs/unified_computing/ucs/interoperability/matrix/b_hcl_B_rel3-12.pdf

where you find: Enterprise Backup Interoperability Matrix

Table 9 lists the tape library models that are supported with this version of the Unified Computing System.

Direct connect of tape librariesis not supported.

Walter.
