Hi All,
Could you please help me clarify the following
Referred document:
http://www.guug.de/lokal/berlin/GUUG%20Nexus%2020100805%20chbock.pdf
The page 41 of the above cisco document describes the implementation options of VN-Link.
According to that, HW VN-Link has the following two options in initiating VN-Tag.
1.SW VNtag initiator
2.HW VNtag initiator
According to this document, it seems that in SW VNtag initiator, VN-Tag is added by VEM
, while in HW VNtag initiator VN-Tag is added by VIC.
Does this SW VNtag initiator really exist? If so, could you please give me a reference document?
Thanks
Jagath

Hi Jagath,
There are two ways of deploying VN-Link
VN-Link in software = Example: Nexus 1000v
VN-Link in hardware (now known as VM-Fex) = Example: Palo VIC
As far as I am aware, there is currently no software VNTag initiator.
The following two documents go into further depth regarding the technology.
Cisco VN-Link: Virtualization-Aware Networking
Virtual Machine Networking: Standards and Solutions
Please let me know if you have further questions.
Regards,
Michael
