Hi;
I found the same question in the forum which was replied by someone referencing this guide on the Cisco website.
But that guide has not any information about the differences between mLOM and Mezzenine cards/Adapters. It only shows the interfaces we can install on the mLOM or Mezzenine, So what is the differences between these? I don't want to know, for example, we can install a VIC on this, but not on other. But I need to kno what is the essential differences between them? why Cisco has put these 2 kinds of cards/slots for what purpose?

Okay, let me put in this way..
1. What if you want to use CNA card (VIC) + GPU? You need mezz slot for GPU.
2. What if you want to use CAN card (VIC) + storage accelerator? You need mezz slot for accelerator.
3. Redundant CAN cards i.e. 2 VIC cards? You need mezz & mLOM both.
4. Want 40G from 1240/1340? You need expander card on mezz slot.
Answers:
Would I ask about the reason behind providing these two different slots on the UCS?
Plz see above
Based on this table, we can attach 1240/1340 cards only to the mLOM and 1280/1380 only to the mezzanine. Do these mean mLOM slots are older ones which has been replaced with Mezzanine?
No, Both have different purpose.
I'm really confused about this and cannot find any reason, structural differences between these two.
There is a structural difference- https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/collateral/interfaces-modules/ucs-virtual-interface-card-1340/datasheet-c78-732517.html
Why & when should we need to use one against other?

Hi @ciscoworlds,
Below table explains all. So on mezz slot you can have storage accelerators/port-expander/GPUs/VIC, however on mLOM you can only have VIC-1240/1340.
