Hi, I have a question about the UCSM Capability Catalog and CPUs, to help with my understanding. We have purchased some new M5 blades with 2nd-gen Intel Scalable processors (UCS-CPU-I6248R). My understanding was that the 4.0 firmware supported the 2nd-gens, and I have 4.04b. UCSM didn't recognize the CPUs, so I thought I'd try a Capability Catalog update to the latest 4.0 version in our Sandbox environment, and I don't see the I6248R listed (I do see I6248). Does this mean that we'll have to do a full firmware upgrade in order to be able to use these CPUs, or did something go wrong with my testing? Are CPUs one of those things that a Capability Catalog update can't help? Thanks!

Check the UCS 4.0 release notes:
Which includes section:
Capability Catalog
Searching string: 6248R
Uncovers line:
4.0(4h) |
ucs-catalog.4.0.4h.T.bin |
CPUs for UCS B200 M5, C220 M5, and C240 M5 servers:
|
Upgrading ONLY the Capability Catalog to 4.0(4h) (or later) should allow that CPU to show properly.
Catalog download page:
https://software.cisco.com/download/home/283612660/type/283118767/release/4.0(4n)
Occasionally a UCS Infrastructure upgrade is required, but most of the time upgrading ONLY the UCS Capability Catalog works.

Thanks, Steven, that's what I was thinking. I did see that the 4.0(4h) notes had the CPU defined. I tried updating to 4.0(4n), but I was using a domain that doesn't currently have blades with the new CPUs, just noticed that the part I was looking for wasn't listed. I'll have to give it a shot on the other domains, and see how it works out.

Ok, I had even logged out and logged back in that day, and didn't see the new CPUs. I went back to the UCSM interface the next day, and the new CPU was listed in the Capability Catalog. It appears it was a display issue. Thanks for your help!
