Storage Connectivity and Zoning

hi,

as per below white paper

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/ps4159/ps6409/ps5990/white_paper_c11_586100.html

the storage processor will have each port connected to different MDS.

here am confused about the zoning configuration on MDS Switches, for example on SAN A Switch should we zone (Server 1 HBA A with Storage Processor Port 1 and 3) ??

how the HA and Load balancing will happen if the server will boot from SAN? i mean between SAN A SW and Storage?

is it enough to zone with the PWWN for SAN Boot or i need to add the WWN of the LUN also?

FC support mutipathing.  Each HBA will use its respective path to login into storage.  You will configure zoning on A so Fabric A WWPNs can communicate and configure zoning on B so Fabric B WWPNs can communicate.  The server will have a boot record to look for Fabric A WWPN value on HBA A. and Fabric B WWPN on HBA B.

For UCS servers, when the HBA bios is loaded, you will see output on the screen for the boot luns that are seen.  This will occur for each HBA.

While the the OS is running, both paths are up and available.  If one fails, commands will use the surviving path.

Does that help?  As a qualified Cisco partner, you may open a case with the PDI Helpdesk to discuss your design strategies.

Thank You,
