UCS Memory Swapping

I currently have the 2x B200 M2 series blades with 12x 4GB 1066 MHz DIMMS of memory added to it. I just ordered a B230 M2 series blade with and more memory for the B200 blades. I ordered the 16GB memory sticks for the B200's, which will fill up the DIMM slots, and a few of the 8GB 1333 MHz sticks for the 230's. Can I add the left over 4GB 1066 MHz sticks to the B230's without any problem ?

I'm aware that adding lesser speed memory to the blade would probably drop the speed of the 8GB 1333 MHz to 1066 also. But, I just don't want to waist the memory.

Hello,

For B230, we need to install memory modules in pair and they have to be identical within a pair. So unless,if those modules are not ordered in pair, it is not recommended to be installed on B230.

The following docs provides more detailed information about memory population guidelines.

B230 technical spec sheet

If you have ordered them in pair, yes we can have mixed memory modules ( 8 GB / 4 GB memory kit )  as suggested in the above document.

Also if the B230 installed with Intel processors of EX family, they can operate only at 1066 MHz even though memory module are capable of operating at 1333 MHz.

Great that exactly what I needed to know. And I didn't know the that the EX Intel series dropped the performance of the memory to 1066 MHz. Thanks
