hi
Are there any differences between N20-C6508 and UCSB-5108-AC2 ?
I can't find differences without the SKU.
Thank you

hi Walter
Thank you very much for you reply.
I'll propose UCSB-5108-AC2 to my customer.
Thank you and best regards,

What Walter describes are the EOL/EOS dates of the power supply. Which has very little to do with the UCS chassis itself. Over the years there have been a few updates of the PSU's. One was about adding dual voltage support (both 208 and 110V) and in at least one other case a replacement happened with a more efficient model. Everything always fully backwards compatible.

The N20-C6508 was the original UCS chassis as launched in 2009. With the UCS Mini in mid 2014, there was a need to provide heartbeat connectivity (L1/L2) between the two 6324 FI's. Instead of running two cables between the FI's, two copper traces were added to the chassis midplane. This became the new UCSB-5108 partnumber.
When using traditional top-of-rack Fabric Interconnects, both chassis models will provide the same functionality. Only for a UCS Mini is it mandatory to use the new chassis and not the original one.

Is there a good way to tell the two generations of the chassis apart? Other than the obvious AC2 on the side and the different part number. I'm told there's a way to upgrade from the old to the new by replacing the midplane, but wasn't sure if that was a kit sold by Cisco or what. Anyone who has a part number for the AC2 midplane would help out a lot too, although when we took one (mostly) apart, we didn't see much in the way of identifying marks.

I am sure there is some underlying physical way of telling them apart, but other than the PID, the chassis look and function exactly the same, besides the fact the older PID does not support UCS Mini.

Correct, no differences in any components. AC2 is the only to support 6324 Fabric Interconnect, also known as the UCS Mini.
There is no upgrade kit...as there is not a way to field upgrade the chassis. You would need to buy a new chassis. Again, no reason for the new chassis, unless you are using a 6324.

Wes,
I have a few customers with the N20-C6508 chassis running non-UCS Mini FI. If a customer is NOT going to use the UCS Mini FI, do they really need to refresh the N20-C6508 chassis due to the EOL announcement?
Thanks.

Bump. I have the same question as the last post.

As of September 2019 you know longer need to replace the 5108, Cisco removed the EoSL date but check your SKU and support contract.
You're welcome :)

Dead link.
According to Cisco, they're still being EOL'ed.

Yes. The original UCS Chassis (N20-C6508) was End-of-Sale'd but NOT End-of-Support'd.
As in, you can no longer purchase new original UCS Chassis.
New purchases are updated UCS Chassis (UCSB-5108-AC2).
End-of-Support is typically End-of-Sale + 5 years.
Existing original UCS Chassis are still fully supported.
