upgrading from 1.4(1j) to 1.4(2b)

Anybody have any issues upgrading to 1.4(2b)?  I asked a consultant and he said that the reserved range of VLANs you can use for VSAN to FCoE VLAN mapping shrinks which could affect me.  The FCoE VLAN mapping for VSAN 1 can get reset to VLAN1 and that this could cause all my hosts to drop access to storage and require reboots to come back up.

Right now my VSAN to FCoE is below.  Has anybody experienced this issue?

Yes this is a known issue.  I actually logged the bug against this

CSCto55519

With the new features in 1.4 they had to expand the reserved VLAN range.  Therefore if you had been using the upper limit - meant trouble and the upgrade didn't validate against this coming from 1.3 or earlier.   This will be fixed in the 2.0 version of UCSM (this will be the next major release - no ETA at this stage but should be before EOY).

As the FCoE VLAN is strictly used only between the Blades & FI's, you can change this to something different.  As a pratice I usually see customers using the FCoE VLAN that matches their VSAN ID (assuming it's not 1) Ex. VSAN 100/200 or 1000/2000.

Robert
