Help!
I am trying to connect a UCS c240 M5 server to a pair of Cisco 6454 Fabric Interconnects. The server is connected to the FIs with a 25gig uplink. The Cisco flavor of ESXi is installed on the UCS server.
It is apparent in the ESXi GUI that the UCS c240 M5 can "see" the Fabric Interconnect--ESXi reports that it knows it is connected to a device running NX-OS (the OS on the Fabric Interconnects) and that it knows it is plugged into Eth1/37 on the device, which is true.
Now here's the rub...
UCS Manager is not "discovering" the new UCS c240 M5 server that I have connected to it. UCS Manager, does however, see the 10 previous servers that have been connected (these servers are all HX 220c M5 boxes).
What am I doing wrong? What do I need to do in order for the UCS c240 M5 to show up in UCS Manager?
Thank you for all of your help!!

You will need a VIC adapter as it is required for the FI to manage the rack server via UCSM. You would either need to install a VIC or connect your server directly to the upstream network/storage switch and bypass the FI.

Can you confirm what ports on the VIC adapter that is installed in the server you are using to connect to the FI? You need to use Port 1 and Port 3 for successful integration into UCSM.

Thank you for your reply Wes. To confirm this, would I look in the Cisco Integrated Management Controller or in ESXi?

Yes, if you look in the CIMC or ESXi it should outline which ports are being used. Although if you are able to access the CIMC in standalone mode, I suspect that can also be related to your issue.
You would want to reset the CIMC to factory default before attempting to integrate into UCSM, assuming you have first corrected your cabling to ensure Port 1 and Port 3 are in use connecting to FI-A and FI-B respectively.

Wes,
It appears that there is no VIC card in these servers. Is that a problem? There are two fiber ports and two copper ports. The two fiber ports are on an Intel Card and the same with the copper ports. We are wanting to connect to the Fabric Interconnects using the fiber ports.

Thank you so much Wes! We will look into getting some VIC adapters.
