C240M3 Rack server Memory Configuration Issue

Attachment 1 -  Memory Organization chart of C240 M3

Attachment 2 -  DIMM Rules of C240 M3

We have 2 Qty. of Cisco C240M3 rack servers.  Each server has 64 GB Memory with 4 nos. DIMMs of 16 GB capacity. We want to upgrade memory of each server to 96 GB. For this, we have got 2 Qty. of 32 GB RAM module from Cisco.

Now we have total 8 nos. of 16 GB modules (as per existing RAM module)  and 2 nos. of 32 GB Modules (newly purchased).

We have referred Cisco UCS memory configuration order from spec sheet and In Server 1, we have plugged 3 nos. of 16 GB modules in A1, B1, C1 and 3 nos. of 16 GB modules in E1, F1 and G1. In this way, we are able to achieve Effective memory of 96 GB in server. This is working fine.

For Server 2, Now, we are left with 2 nos. of 16 GB module and 2 nos. 32 GB modules. We have inserted 32 GB module in A1 and 16 GB module in B1 slot for CPU1 and for CPU2, we have inserted 32 GB module in E1 and 16 GB module in F1 slot.

But When powered on , server 2 is unable to successfully pass testing memory stage.

As per rules, we need to fill Blue slot first, so we also tried plugging A1 with 16 GB and B1 with 32 GB but server 2 is unable to successfully pass testing memory stage.

We also tried A1 and B1 with 32 GB for CPU 1 and E1 - F1 with 16 GB each for CPU2. But this is also not working.

There is no problem with newly purchased 32 GB modules because when we insert one 32 GB in A1 and another 32 GB in E1, server 2 is able to successfully test 64 GB effective RAM.

So kindly suggest, With 2 nos. of 16 GB modules and 2 nos. of 32 GB modules, how can we achieve 96 GB RAM in server 2.  Is there any alternate way to populate memory in DIMM slots.

Kindly suggest solution.

Greetings.

Please check the following combinations:

A1, E1 32GB dimms only (64 total GB)

A1, E1 16GB dimms only (32 total GB)

Please list the exact PIDs listed on all 4 DIMMs on this server.

Thanks,

Kirk

With your suggested Combination, how will we achieve 96 GB Memory. I believe you are asking me test both 32 GB and 16 GB modules separately in A1 and E1. But, that is already tested and individually they are working fine.

We want to achieve 96 GB Memory with Combination of 2 nos. 32 GB and 2 nos. 16 GB.

Kindly suggest.

There must be something about the two pairs of DIMMs that is not compatible.

Please list the exact PIDs labled on the DIMMs so I can check exact timing, rank, etc for all 4 DIMMs.

Kirk...
