Ok, I have a default splash page to redirect to, but when I put the SSID into passthrough mode, the client loses connection and can no longer get to the internet. I suppose I am missing some other sort of config on the WLC.
Then it seems as though you have a different issue. APs not joining a controller can have a few reasons, NTP/System time not set, AP license issue, etc. Is this a new controller and are these the first APs you are trying to associate to it?
Ibrahim.....are your 802.11a and b/g Network Status radio buttons checked? Go to Wireless tab, then 802.11a/n/ac, then click network. The 802.11a Network Status radio button should be set to enable. Same process for the 801.11b/g/n network.
Ric....I don't recall with these devices, but is there a loss of connectivity for users when there is a failover? I am hoping no as this is what the HA setup was supposed to eliminate, but I am always cautious when assuming what is going to happens ...
